New Delhi: The company has appealed to the International Court of Justice against the Rs 20,000 crore tax claim notice sent by Vodafone to the International Court of Justice. Judging the case, the Hague court ruled that the Indian tax department had not acted impartially and fairly. Sending a tax notice to Vodafone violates an investment agreement signed between India and the Netherlands. Hodgson’s telecom assets were bought by Vodafone in the UK in 2006. The Indian government has sent a tax notice to the deal. In 2012, the government enacted a law that gave the government the power to impose taxes on transactions on a later date. Under the law, the government sent Vodafone Rs 20,000 crore in tax notices for 2009 transactions. Vodafone has been opposed to this for many years.
