New Delhi / Bhubaneswar: The LPG delivery rules in the country will change from next November. The delivery man will hand over the LPG-filled cylinder to the customer concerned if the OTP found during the gas booking is shown. Government companies have taken steps to curb gas theft. In the first phase, the system will be implemented in 100 smart cities across the country from November 1. As a result, the scheme will be implemented in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. The system is currently being implemented in Jaipur, Rajasthan on a trial basis. The scheme will be implemented nationwide on the basis of the progress and success of the scheme in 100 smart cities. Under the new system, a customer will be able to send an OTP to his or her mobile phone while booking an LPG. Customers have to show that OTP when delivering LPG at the delivery person’s home. If the customer’s mobile number is not updated, the delivery person will update the code and generate the code through an app. Customers with incorrect addresses and mobile numbers will have difficulty getting gas. Even their gas supply may be cut off. However, the scheme does not apply to commercial cylinder customers. Odisha has two smart cities, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, with three Yak oil companies with about 45 distributors. There are about 34 distributors in Bhubaneswar and 11 in Rourkela. They supply gas to about 555,000 LPG customers. The two Yak cities have 140,000 customers from IOCL, 225,000 from HPCL and 140,000 from BPCL, a senior oil company official said. They need OTP to get gas. So there are some barriers to the success of the scheme. One of them must be at home using a mobile OTP number that has 4 OTPs when the Heila delivery person arrives home. Otherwise, delivery will be delayed. Similarly, a delivery person needs to have a smartphone for this. But not all delivery people have smartphones yet. So the plan is expected to succeed if all these barriers are removed.
