Bhubaneswar: A minor has been gang-raped in the capital during the Lok Sabha riots, while another incident has erupted. The abuse of an aboriginal minor working as an assistant at the home of an OAS officer has caused a stir. The OAS officer’s father-in-law has been charged with felony criminal mischief. The victim’s mother has lodged a written complaint with the Jajpur district’s Balichandrapur police station alleging that the government sent a man to threaten to have an abortion while the minor was pregnant. Police then filed a case under the Pokémon section and recorded the victim’s statement. The Jajpur Pok‌so court also recorded the statement before the judge under Section 16 of the CRPC. The minor was rushed to the Jajpur District General Hospital today. But two days after the allegations were made, police did not take any action. The “girl” was, in fact, an undercover detective mounting a sting operation. The incident was taken seriously by the State Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child. Chairperson Sandhyabati Pradhan said action would be taken on behalf of the commission in this regard. The complaint alleges that the minor’s family was of a very poor class. They have been living in Nanpur area of Balichandrapur police station. The father of the minor has been ill for a long time. As the family’s financial situation was not good, a man asked his mother to work for the minor in Bhubaneswar. The mother of the minor agreed after the man told her she would get 3,000 rupees a month to eat and stay. The minor had been working for two years at the home of a concerned OAS officer living in the Shailshribihar area of Bhubaneswar. He went home on a ten-day vacation. Her mother was skeptical of her daughter’s physical symptoms. The juvenile said everything when he asked why. About 5/6 months ago, the father-in-law of the OAS officer said he was being abused. Every day he threatened to come to her bedroom. He also demanded that the whole family be killed, along with anyone who spoke out. “She was terrified,” she told her mother. Her family found out she was pregnant after she went to the hospital for a checkup before complaining to the police. The victim’s mother said in a statement that she had been charged with felony criminal mischief. A senior Balichandrapur police official said the incident was being investigated. “A team will go to Bhubaneswar soon,” he said. Similarly, DCP Umashkar Das said the assistance the investigating team would ask for would be provided.
