New Delhi: The employment situation in the country has deteriorated again. There has been a gradual improvement in employment, which has gone from bad to worse since the announcement of Lockdown. But again, in November, the situation worsened. The Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CM6II) estimates that about 3.5 million people are unemployed this month. Fifty thousand people lost their jobs last October. According to the CM9 Consumer Pyramids HouseholdHold survey, the number of people active in employment in November was 34.8 crore. In March this year, more than a million people were active in employment. About 12 crore people lost their jobs after the announcement of the lockdown this year. But the situation has improved since July, and that trend has continued until September. The situation has worsened since October. People lost their jobs in both October and November. As of the third week of December, the employment rate was 38.5%, while the unemployment rate was 7.5%. As of December last year, 40.5 crore people were active in employment. This year, their number is expected to reach a maximum of 34.5 crore. Mahesh Beas, Managing Director and CEO of CM4II, said the decline in the labor market was not a matter of concern, but that the biggest problem was the loss of good employment. In 2020, there was a rapid decline in women’s employment. Women contribute 11% to the country’s labor force, while men contribute 41%. Since Lockdown, the unemployment rate for women has been as high as 18%, compared to 7% for men. In April 2020, 13.6% of women lost their jobs. The number of men who lost their jobs by November has improved, while women have not had that privilege, according to the CM6I report.
