Mumbai: The country’s oil refining capacity will be doubled in the next five years. This was stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister has announced that he will pursue such ambitious goals in the field of oil refining while the economy is being damaged by the Karona epidemic. The country now has an annual oil refining capacity of about 250 million tonnes. However, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said at a function last June that it would be doubled to 450 to 500 million tonnes in the next 10 years, while Modi said that work was underway today to achieve the target in five years. This was stated by Modi today while attending the eighth convocation of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University. In addition, the Prime Minister said the aim is to increase the contribution of natural gas to the country’s energy use fourfold. The share of clean energy in the country’s total energy consumption is about 7 percent. “India’s renewable energy capacity will reach 175 gigawatts by 2022 and 450 gigawatts by 2030,” Modi said. In 2014, India’s renewable energy capacity was about 45 gigawatts.
