New Delhi: Ruchi Gupta, national in-charge of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and a joint student secretary of the Congress, has resigned. His resignation comes at a time when the Congress is electing a new president and discussing a number of other important issues. Gupta is said to be very close to Rahul Gandhi. Ruchi has accused WhatsApp of delaying the reshuffle. Such a resignation by Ruchi Gupta will throw the team into abeyance. On the one hand, Sonia Gandhi is trying to persuade disgruntled leaders, while Ruchi is dissatisfied. Ruchi was the chief secretary of the NSUI. According to sources, he said in a WhatsApp message that party general secretary KC Benugopala was constantly delaying the change in the organization, which was causing damage to the party. “I have to say sadly that I am resigning from the party. I am grateful to Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi for giving me the opportunity to serve,” Ruchi tweeted. He acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Lukashenko’s government, and said that maintaining some independence was important. Ruchi Gupta’s resignation letter has not yet been received by the Congress general secretary. He is thought to have survived an earlier attempt to oust him following Mr Jiang’s intervention.
