The incident took place in Sundarkuli village of Yambhirai panchayat under Baliapal police station in Baleshwar district. Defendant Mamu Deepak Sahu has reportedly confessed. He asserted that his confession had been obtained through torture. Notably, Bishnupriya, daughter of Balaram Patra of Sundarkuli village, has been missing since Friday morning. Vishnupriya was searched by the family but could not be found. The father finally lodged a written complaint with the Baliapal police station yesterday. Police are investigating. The body of Vishnupriya, a seven-year-old girl who went missing three days later, was recovered from a pond. Police detained Vishnupriya’s uncle Deepak Sahu and launched an investigation into the incident. Tensions are running high in Sundarkuli village over the incident. A platoon of police has been deployed to deal with the situation.
